Cyberspace, Industrial Base, & Netcentricity

Working on the Defense Science Board Taskforce for Network-Centric Interoperability has been a very enlightening experience. Our particular contribution was mainly in the applicability of Service Oriented Architectures for DoD. The benefits of SOA are immediately apparent in the ability to scale rapidly in support of contingencies, exercises, and operations. Additionally, the potential cost efficiencies across a large enterprise are intriguing. How this will work in a bandwidth constrained environment will probably be first demonstrated through the CANES (Consolidated Afloat Network Enterprise Services) program that the Navy is currently working on. We are looking forward to seeing how small businesses rise to this challenge as the contracting progresses.

Three of the most recent reports relevant to not only DoD but also to all of the Federal Government are included below and address Cyberspace Issues, the Defense Industrial Base and Procurement, and Network Centric Interoperability. All are relevant for the National Dialogue and Policy Development going forward.
